About this variety

Imam Pasand Mango

Imam Pasand — known in Andhra Pradesh as Himayat, and historically as Nazir Pasand — is widely regarded as the king of South Indian mangoes. Large, oblong, and a beautiful pale golden yellow when ripe, it has an exceptionally sweet flavour with a delicate, smooth, completely fibre-free flesh. The natural fragrance is unlike any other variety — intensely aromatic and lingering. At NativeRoots, Imam Pasand is our rarest offering. We have only a small number of mature trees, and the harvest is strictly limited each season. Every Imam Pasand mango is hand-selected, individually wrapped, and sent in small batches to ensure perfect condition on arrival.

Why Salem?

While Imam Pasand is most commonly associated with Andhra Pradesh, Salem-grown specimens benefit from the district's red soil and dry climate, which concentrate the fruit's natural sugars and develop the characteristic fragrance to its fullest expression.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Imam Pasand — also known as Himayat or Nazir Pasand — is considered the finest mango variety in South India. It is large, oblong, and pale golden when ripe, with exceptionally sweet, smooth, completely fibre-free flesh and a unique lingering fragrance. It is regarded as a premium and rare mango variety.

Imam Pasand and Himayat are the same variety — the name varies by region. In Tamil Nadu it is commonly called Imam Pasand; in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana it is called Himayat. Other names include Nazir Pasand and Alampur Baneshan.

Imam Pasand is rare because the trees are difficult to cultivate, the yield per tree is low, and the season is very short — typically May to June only. Each fruit is large (300–500 g) and must be hand-selected. The combination of rarity, exceptional quality, and limited availability makes it one of the most premium mango varieties in India.

Never. We ripen all our mangoes naturally in paddy hay (the traditional South Indian method) for 2–3 days after harvest. Calcium carbide — used by many traders to artificially speed up ripening — is never used at NativeRoots. Natural ripening develops the full flavour and aroma that artificial methods cannot replicate.

Our farm is located in Panaimadal, near Puthiragoundampalayam, in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, India (pincode 636117). Salem is one of the most celebrated mango-growing regions in India, known especially for the Senthoora variety.

We ship via air courier (Shiprocket) and most orders across India are delivered within 1–3 business days. We dispatch orders at the start of each week after the weekly harvest. You will receive a tracking number by email once your order ships.

Yes, we deliver to most pin codes across India. You can check delivery availability and the exact shipping cost by entering your pincode on any product page or in the cart.

If your mangoes arrive firm, keep them at room temperature for 1–2 days to finish ripening. Once ripe (slightly soft to touch, fragrant), refrigerate and consume within 2–3 days. Do not refrigerate unripe mangoes as it stops the ripening process.

What our customers say

★★★★★

“I have eaten Imam Pasand (Himayat) in Hyderabad many times, but the Salem-grown version from NativeRoots has a distinct character — the fragrance is more pronounced and the flesh is completely fibre-free in a way I have not experienced before. Ordered as a gift and received very appreciative feedback. Will order every season.”

“Imam Pasand is almost impossible to find in Mumbai. A friend recommended NativeRoots and I ordered a 3 kg box. It arrived in 2 days, perfectly packed. The mangoes were large, smooth, fibre-free — completely different class from anything I've eaten before. The natural fragrance is extraordinary. Worth every rupee.”

About our farm

Grown in Salem — delivered across India

NativeRoots is a family-run mango farm in Panaimadal, Salem district, Tamil Nadu (PIN 636117). We grow Senthoora, Totapuri, Rumani, and Imam Pasand on land that has been farmed for generations. Every mango is hand-picked at maturity and ripened in paddy hay — the traditional South Indian method that produces the full, natural flavour that artificial ripening can never replicate.

Salem is the mango capital of Tamil Nadu. The district's red laterite soil is mineral-rich, and the climate — warm, dry summers and moderate humidity — creates ideal growing conditions. Salem-grown mangoes, especially Senthoora, are sought after across South India for their intensity of flavour that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
