About this variety

Senthoora Mango

Senthoora mangoes are grown exclusively in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu and are renowned across South India for their deep sweetness, striking reddish-pink blush, and dense, almost fibre-free flesh. The name "Senthoora" comes from the Tamil word for vermillion — a nod to its distinctive colour. Salem's unique red laterite soil, warm days, and cool nights create the ideal conditions for Senthoora to develop its signature flavour. At NativeRoots, our Senthoora trees are over a decade old. Each mango is hand-picked at the right stage of maturity, then ripened naturally in paddy hay for 2–3 days — the traditional method that intensifies sweetness without any chemicals.

Why Salem?

Salem's red laterite soil is uniquely mineral-rich and the region's climate — warm, dry summers with moderate humidity — creates the perfect conditions for Senthoora to develop its characteristic deep sweetness and striking colour. No other region produces Senthoora with the same intensity of flavour.

Senthoora is one of the sweetest mango varieties grown in India. It has a rich, deep sweetness with dense, almost fibre-free flesh. Unlike many varieties that are tangy, Senthoora is purely sweet with a smooth, creamy texture.

Senthoora mangoes are in season from April to June. The peak of the season — when flavour is at its best — is typically May. At NativeRoots, we harvest weekly and dispatch the same week, so you receive mangoes at peak ripeness.

Never. We ripen all our mangoes naturally in paddy hay (the traditional South Indian method) for 2–3 days after harvest. Calcium carbide — used by many traders to artificially speed up ripening — is never used at NativeRoots. Natural ripening develops the full flavour and aroma that artificial methods cannot replicate.

Our farm is located in Panaimadal, near Puthiragoundampalayam, in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, India (pincode 636117). Salem is one of the most celebrated mango-growing regions in India, known especially for the Senthoora variety.

We ship via air courier (Shiprocket) and most orders across India are delivered within 1–3 business days. We dispatch orders at the start of each week after the weekly harvest. You will receive a tracking number by email once your order ships.

What our customers say

★★★★★

“I grew up eating Salem mangoes and moved to Chennai 30 years ago. Every summer I search for a real Senthoora but what you get in markets is carbide-ripened and tasteless. NativeRoots is the first time in years I've tasted a Senthoora that actually tastes like my childhood — the colour, the fragrance, the sweetness. Exactly as I remember. Highly recommend to anyone who wants the genuine article.”

“Ordered 3 kg as a birthday gift for my dad who's originally from Salem. He called me the moment he tasted the first one — said it was exactly like the mangoes he ate growing up. Delivery was 2 days to Bangalore, packaging was solid, every mango arrived in perfect condition. Will reorder every season.”

“Finally found a source for chemical-free mangoes. My kids have been eating these for two seasons and the difference from supermarket mangoes is night and day — taste, texture, fragrance. The paddy hay ripening is real, you smell the natural fragrance the moment you open the box. Our 5 kg box lasts about 4 days!”
