About this variety

Rumani Mango

Rumani is one of the most aromatic mango varieties grown in Salem. Round in shape, smaller than Senthoora, and deeply fragrant — a ripe Rumani fills the room with a natural mango perfume that is unmistakable. The flesh is juicy, soft, and has a beautifully balanced sweet-tangy flavour that is lighter than Senthoora but no less satisfying. Rumani is a limited-harvest variety at NativeRoots — we grow fewer of these trees, and the season is short. It is a favourite for mango lassi, milkshakes, and eating fresh straight from the tree.

Why Salem?

Salem-grown Rumani develops an especially intense natural fragrance compared to the same variety grown elsewhere. The region's warm days and the mineral-rich soil concentrate the aromatic compounds that give Rumani its signature perfume.

Frequently asked questions

Rumani is an aromatic mango variety grown in Salem, Tamil Nadu. It is round in shape, smaller than Senthoora, and known for its juicy, soft flesh and a beautifully balanced sweet-tangy flavour. It has a distinctive natural fragrance that intensifies as it ripens.

Rumani is a limited harvest variety at NativeRoots because we grow fewer Rumani trees and the season — May to June — is shorter than other varieties. Availability is restricted to what the farm produces each week, so stock can sell out quickly during the season.

Rumani is best enjoyed fresh, or used in mango milkshakes and lassi. Its soft, juicy texture and aromatic flavour make it perfect for blending. It also works well as a dessert mango — simply slice and serve.

Never. We ripen all our mangoes naturally in paddy hay (the traditional South Indian method) for 2–3 days after harvest. Calcium carbide — used by many traders to artificially speed up ripening — is never used at NativeRoots. Natural ripening develops the full flavour and aroma that artificial methods cannot replicate.

Our farm is located in Panaimadal, near Puthiragoundampalayam, in the Salem district of Tamil Nadu, India (pincode 636117). Salem is one of the most celebrated mango-growing regions in India, known especially for the Senthoora variety.

We ship via air courier (Shiprocket) and most orders across India are delivered within 1–3 business days. We dispatch orders at the start of each week after the weekly harvest. You will receive a tracking number by email once your order ships.

Yes, we deliver to most pin codes across India. You can check delivery availability and the exact shipping cost by entering your pincode on any product page or in the cart.

If your mangoes arrive firm, keep them at room temperature for 1–2 days to finish ripening. Once ripe (slightly soft to touch, fragrant), refrigerate and consume within 2–3 days. Do not refrigerate unripe mangoes as it stops the ripening process.

What our customers say

★★★★★

“Rumani mangoes from NativeRoots are exceptional. The fragrance alone is worth it — you can smell it through the box before you even open it. Made mango lassi and milkshake with these and they were incredible. The flavour is so much more complex than anything available in Hyderabad markets.”

“First time ordering Rumani — had no idea what I was missing. It's softer and more aromatic than Senthoora, almost like a dessert mango. My parents from Salem kept saying it reminded them of the mangoes from our grandmother's farm. Very high praise. Will order every year without question.”

“I've been searching for good Rumani for years — most shops don't carry it at all. NativeRoots not only has it but delivers in perfect condition, ripe and fragrant. Limited stock means you have to order early in the season but it is absolutely worth it. Already placed next order.”

About our farm

Grown in Salem — delivered across India

NativeRoots is a family-run mango farm in Panaimadal, Salem district, Tamil Nadu (PIN 636117). We grow Senthoora, Totapuri, Rumani, and Imam Pasand on land that has been farmed for generations. Every mango is hand-picked at maturity and ripened in paddy hay — the traditional South Indian method that produces the full, natural flavour that artificial ripening can never replicate.

Salem is the mango capital of Tamil Nadu. The district's red laterite soil is mineral-rich, and the climate — warm, dry summers and moderate humidity — creates ideal growing conditions. Salem-grown mangoes, especially Senthoora, are sought after across South India for their intensity of flavour that cannot be replicated elsewhere.
